ESIM conducted 4th Annual Conference

Ethiopian society of Internal medicine had conducted its 4th annual conference from August 4 to 5, 2018  at Intercontinental Hotel, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This year's theme was " Non Communicable Diseases(NCDs): Clinical Perspective'.

The conference highlighted what was new in internal medicine in the year 2017/ 2018 by stellar update lectures from various sub-specialists in all areas of Internal medicine. A follow up of last year's ground breaking study on the national Internal medicine residency programs was presented. This included the preparation of a draft harmonized Internal medicine curriculum which was disseminated to all members for comments. This was done in collaboration with FMOH and Clinton health access initiative. A panel discussion on NCDs clinical perspective was held which was followed by lively discussion among participants and stakeholders from the Ministry of health.

Tea breaks had educational stations as there were various procedure practice stations for various procedures in Internal medicine such as Endoscopy, Chest Ultrasound and Echocardiography.  Furthermore, ESIM members had presented their research abstracts. For the first time in this society's history, abstract competition was held and  a prize was awarded for the winner.

Prof Edemariam Tsega's Obituary



The Ethiopian Society of Internal Medicine (ESIM) would like to pass its condolences to all practicing doctors in the country on the passing of Prof Edemariam Tsega. Prof Edemariam has been a towering figure in the field of Internal Medicine in Ethiopia in the previous decades. He has left an indelible foot print in medical education, research, Ethics and professionalism. Most considered him to be the epitome of excellence in Medicine.

Acute Coronary Syndrome CME

ESIM conducted training in acute coronary Syndrome in collaboration with the Aga Khan Hospital, Kenya. The event was hosted in Addis Ababa and was held at Raddison Blue Hotel. Participants working in the area of cardiology took part in the event and got an opportunity to discuss the advances in the field of cardiology. The session was interactive as well as reflected local experience of the two countries.
