He was one of the few people who can be credited to have played a role in the establishment of the medical education system that we have today in both the undergraduate and graduate medical education programs. He was an exemplary person in clinical practice, medical education and research. Among other things he has done extraordinary original research in the area of hepatitis in Ethiopia. In short, his name was associated with excellence in everything he did. He was a high caliber scholar in its true sense.
He was predeceased by his parents and 5 siblings, and is survived by sisters Tiruwork (Wodajie), Zena, and Mare(Worku) and cousin Alemante (Askale), and many other cousins, nephews and nieces, He was the beloved husband for 47 years of Frances Lester, and dear father of Aida (David), Naomi, Yohannes and Yodit, and grandfather of Rahel.
He will be missed... but his influence and legacy will live forever in all the students he educated and trained, as well as in the healthcare/education system he helped establish.
